Hydrate The Right Way !
Experts agree that the only fool proof way to make sure you are properly hydrated is by weighing yourself before and after exercise. A zero net gain or loss is perfect. You are replacing all fluids that the body has lost. It's OK to lose a pound or so, two pounds if you're chubby. But, you should never gain weight, a possible indicator of hyponatremia.
Calculate Your Water Needs:
Light: sweaters produce less than one quart of sweat per hour of sustained exercise. Drink 4oz of fluids every 15 minutes. |
Moderate: sweaters lose between 1 and 2 quarts per hour. Drink 8oz of fluids every 15 minutes. |
Heavy: sweaters have been shown to sweat out more than 2 quarts an hour. Drink 16oz. of fluids every 15 minutes. |
Hyponatremia: blood contains dangerously low levels of sodium due to over hydration. Eat salty snacks to combat it.
